A Digital Platform for Healthcare Delivery
To date, the digitization of healthcare delivery has primarily centered on optimizing individual, largely independent primary systems and expert systems that operate in isolation from one another while collecting data. However, the true potential for optimization lies in leveraging digital platforms to interconnect these individual entities and their systems.
This paper illustrates that best practices for nationwide healthcare delivery platforms already exist by referencing examples from Austria (ELGA), Liechtenstein (EGD), and Switzerland (Swiss Post). These platforms integrate various healthcare providers involved in patient treatment. Furthermore, it highlights the University Medical Centre Mannheim (UMM) in Germany as a case study. UMM employs a platform to provide clinical solutions institution-wide, offering a real-world clinical testing environment along with technical infrastructure for the evaluation and development of diverse digital solutions.
